PM Surya Ghar + UPNEDA: The Exact Subsidy Stack for UP Homes in 2026

By SIA Solar Team25 May 20263 min read

The single most common reason UP homeowners leave money on the table with rooftop solar is simple: they only claim the central subsidy and never the state top-up. Here is exactly how the PM Surya Ghar and UPNEDA subsidies stack for an Uttar Pradesh home in 2026, with the rupee math for 1, 2, and 3 kW, plus the application steps and documents.

The two layers

Layer 1, central (PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana): - ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW - ₹18,000 per kW for the 2 to 3 kW slab - maximum ₹78,000 for systems of 3 kW and above

Layer 2, state (UPNEDA, Uttar Pradesh only): - about ₹15,000 per kW, capped at ₹30,000 per consumer - stacked on top of the central subsidy

The rupee math by system size

  • 1 kW: ₹30,000 central + about ₹15,000 UPNEDA = roughly ₹45,000
  • 2 kW: ₹60,000 central + about ₹30,000 UPNEDA (at the cap) = roughly ₹90,000
  • 3 kW: ₹78,000 central + ₹30,000 UPNEDA (at the cap) = roughly ₹1,08,000

That state layer is the part most homeowners miss. On a 3 kW system it is an extra ₹30,000.

Who is eligible

You need to be an Indian citizen owning a legal residential property with a valid NPCL (or your local DISCOM) connection, rooftop space for at least 1 kW, no previous rooftop solar subsidy, a grid connection with net metering, MNRE-approved components from an empanelled vendor, and Aadhaar plus bank linked for the direct benefit transfer.

The application, step by step

  1. Register on the national portal, pmsuryaghar.gov.in, and apply with your state, district, DISCOM, and consumer number.
  2. DISCOM feasibility check (about 7 days).
  3. Choose an empanelled vendor and finalise the system design.
  4. Installation, then meter change to a bidirectional net meter.
  5. DISCOM final inspection and commissioning certificate.
  6. Upload the certificate; the subsidy reaches your bank via DBT in 30 to 45 days (allow up to 60).

Documents to keep ready

Latest electricity bill in your name, Aadhaar or ID, property ownership proof, bank passbook or cancelled cheque, and a passport photo.

The timeline

PM Surya Ghar is an active, multi-year scheme. The original the current scheme timeline (see pmsuryaghar.gov.in) milestone has passed and timelines are revised in phases, so check pmsuryaghar.gov.in for the current deadline. Because feasibility, installation, and inspection together take several weeks, starting early always helps.

Frequently asked questions

Is the UPNEDA top-up automatic?

It is part of the same UP application flow, but you must apply correctly and use an empanelled vendor. We file it for you.

What is the maximum I can get for a 3 kW home?

About ₹1,08,000 combined (₹78,000 central plus ₹30,000 UPNEDA) for an eligible UP consumer.

How long does the whole process take?

Typically several weeks end to end, with subsidy disbursal 30 to 45 days after commissioning.

Does the subsidy come as a discount or cash?

As a direct benefit transfer to your linked bank account after commissioning, not an instant point-of-sale discount.

Can SIA Solar handle the paperwork?

Yes. We manage the portal application, NPCL feasibility, net metering, and the UPNEDA top-up end to end.
